What is a eps file?
EPS files are supported by numerous different drawing programs and vector graphics editing applications. They are often used as a standard file type for transferring image data between different operating systems. EPS files can be either binary or ASCII, and may include 2D vector graphics, bitmap images and text.
EPS files frequently include a preview feature, which provides for an embedded preview image in bitmap format for on-screen display. The use of “EPS” rather than “PS” refers to this “Embedded” bit-mapped display function. PS file include only the PostScript commands for printing the graphic, and do not provide for a display preview.
EPS files also go by .epsf and .epsi.
