What is a pict file?
The PICT (PCT) file format is a metafile format for graphic images used by the original Apple Macintosh computer. PICT files are versatile in their ability to contain other types of graphics files. PICT files are the native format for Apple QuickDraw, Apple’s application programming interface. PICT files contain Apple QuickDraw’s set of rules and are capable of 4-bit to 24-bit color bitmap graphics. PICT files feature 1-bit of 16-bit opcodes, depending on what version of QuickDraw the file was created with. Though saving a graphic in PICT created a convenient way to transport files, PDF has overcome PICT as the native metafile format for Mac OS X. Other examples of image files are JPG or PCX.
