What is a rgba file?

RGBA typically stands for Red Green Blue Alpha. RGBA files are similar to RGB files, but additionally allow for Alpha blending and compositing. RGBA files allow compressed or uncompressed images, with the option of alpha transparency for both monochrome and color images.

On Silicon Graphics Image systems, files will end with the RGBA extension if they are RGB images with an alpha channel. These file types are often used with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). PNG files also use RGBA bitmaps.  RGBA files can be converted to JPG or TIFF files with the appropriate software.
